Kärcher has taken the necessary steps to have the effectiveness of its steam cleaners against viruses tested in an independent laboratory. The result: when used correctly, the machines eliminate up to 99.999% of enveloped viruses*, such as coronavirus and influenza, and 99.99% of common household bacteria** from hard surfaces. Since disinfectants should currently be reserved primarily for outpatient and hospital care, steam cleaners can make a valuable contribution to general hygiene, both in private homes and in commercial and industrial settings.
* Tests have shown that a 30-second cleaning cycle with a Kärcher steam cleaner at maximum steam level eliminates 99.999% of enveloped viruses such as coronavirus and influenza (excluding hepatitis B virus) on common smooth, hard surfaces in the home (germ test: modified Vaccinia-Ankara virus).
** When deep cleaning with a Kärcher steam cleaner, 99.99% of all common household bacteria will be eliminated on common smooth hard surfaces in the home, provided the cleaning speed is at a maximum steam level of 30 cm/s (germ test: Enterococcus hirae). 99.999% with professional SG (V) steam cleaners according to EN 16615: 2015-06, PVC flooring, test germs: Enterococcus hirae ATCC 10541.
